Which one do you have?

You need: Needs at least 1.5 A on the 5 V line

You need: Needs 1.7 A on the 5 V line

Cheaper aftermarket part

Modern C64 replacement power supply

5V DC, 1.5A min (1.7A for C64C) plus 9V AC, 1A, 7-pin DIN. AC output on one line

It needs both AC and DC on a keyed plug, so only a C64-specific supply works.

Check first: Check it says 5V DC and 9V AC with a round 7-pin DIN, and measure both outputs before plugging in.

Device end
7-pin DIN, keyed. Pins 1-3 shield ground, 4 not connected, 5 +5 V DC, 6-7 9 V AC.
Wall end
Region-specific; a 220 V 50 Hz unit exists (251053-11)
Voltage
5 V DC and 9 V AC
Current
5 V at 1.5 A (C64) or 1.7 A (C64C); 9 V AC at 1 A
Polarity
n/a for AC; DC on pin 5

The usual mistake

Buying a single-output 5 V adapter; the machine needs 9 V AC as well, so a plain DC brick won't run it.
